NEW TRIER TOWNSHIP, IL — Authorities released images of suspects in a ruse home burglary reported last week in unincorporated New Trier Township in the hopes of solving the case.

On Thursday, sheriff's police were called to the first block of North Indian Hill Road, located between the borders of Wilmette, Kenilworth and Winnetka, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.

The two residents, a man and woman in their early 80s, told officers that someone had come to the front door and claimed to be a construction worker.

The fake construction worker led the woman outside by claiming he needed to show her something, according to the sheriff's office.

Meanwhile, four other burglars got into the house.

When the other victim spotted one of the burglars inside the home, sheriff's office representatives said, the intruder claimed he needed to check the kitchen sink due to a broken water main outside.

After the group spent about 10 minutes inside the house, they left in a dark gray or black SUV with an Xfinity logo on the side, the sheriff's office announced.

The sheriff's office asked anyone with information about the burglary to contact detectives and offered the following tips to the members of the public to avoid giving burglars access to their homes:

• Talk through the door.

• Do not let anyone you are not expecting into your home.

• If the person says he or she is a utility employee, call that agency to verify that an employee has legitimate business at your home. Do not use the phone number the person at the door provides.

• Note any vehicle information — license plate, make, and model of the vehicle.

• Call 911 immediately if you encounter anyone suspicious.
