Winnetka Memorial Day Parade Returns For First Time Since 2019
In-person Memorial Day parades are returning to the area after two years of coronavirus-related cancelations.
WINNETKA, IL — A Memorial Day parade is set to march through Winnetka next week for the first time in three years.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at Glendale Avenue and Elm Street. The route heads east down Elm to the Village Green for a ceremony at 10:30 a.m.
Organized by the village, park district and a local Memorial Day committee, the ceremony is scheduled to feature music from the Bill Porter Band and vocal performances from North Shore Day School students Emilise Comeau and Annabella Cesca and the Sheridan Singers.

Veteran U.S. Army Capt. Matt Schachman and retired U.S. Navy reserve officer and former U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk are scheduled to deliver remarks at the event, which will be held inside the auditorium of the Skokie School, 520 Glendale Ave., in case of bad weather.
In Glencoe, village officials and the Glencoe Historical Society are honoring residents who have died in service of the country with an 11 a.m. event at Veterans Memorial Park, east of the train station next to Glencoe Union Church. Village staff will livestream the proceedings on social media, and the ceremony will be moved to the Takiff Center, 999 Green Bay Road, in case of rain.

Most local, state and federal offices in Winnetka, Glencoe the rest of Illinois will be closed for the in observance of the holiday, and various local businesses will be open with modified hours.
In Winnetka and Glencoe, services such as mail delivery and pickup and garbage pickup will be delayed for Memorial Day, with Monday's and Tuesday's scheduled yard waste and recycling collection set to take place one day later than usual in both towns.
Memorial Day parades are also planned for Wilmette, Lincolnwood, Park Ridge and downtown Chicago — where the route begins with a ceremony to lay a wreath at the Daley Center, 50 W. Washington St., before heading south on State Street from Lake Street.
