Winnetka: Most Charitable Town on the North Shore
A national ranking of most giving zip codes shows Winnetka donates most money among the surrounding North Shore communities. Both Winnetka and Glencoe donated more money than the national or Cook County average.

Winnetka residents are donating more of their income than neighbors on the North Shore, according to 'How America Gives,' a study from the Chronicle of Philanthropy.
Based on the study Winnetka ranks at No. 12 of 28,725 zip codes ranked throughout the country, donating a total of $145.7 million.

Regionally, 60093 is the most charitable town among surrounding communities with 5.4 percent of income given and a median contribution of $24,953.
Glencoe was ranked at No. 483 but was among the least charitable on the North Shore with 3.8 percent of income given and a median contribution of $17,026.

Northfield was not listed in the study.

The study shows how states, cities and neighborhoods rank in generosity using data by zip code, income level and charity given, taken directly from 2008 tax records. The study also uses factors like amount of discretionary income and can also be broken down by income level, age and race.
According to the study, Winnetka and Glencoe residents gave more than the national or Cook County average.
