Dull Weekend? We Can Fix That: 5 Things to Do in Woodridge

Try out some of these events this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Is your weekend schedule looking a little dull? Don’t worry — there’s plenty going on, and we’ve got the scoop on what’s going on when. Fill some extra time with a couple of these fun events.

1. Feel the LOVE

Join LOVE Christian Clearinghouse Friday night at 7 p.m. for a night of jazz and country music suitable for your entire family. The event will take place at the Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church on 149 W. Brush Hill Rd., and “LOVE in Concert” will feature singer/songwriter Andrew Salgado and Tristan Abrams, vocalist and guitarist for the band “Fire the Canon.” Also performing will be the College of DuPage Community Jazz Ensemble, the Elmhurst College Luis Haller Sextet and the Ted & Glenn Duo from the Thadeus Project. Tickets are $36 right now or $40 at the door. More information here.

3. Give back to your environment and your community

Recycle electronics and donate old coats to the Woodridge community Saturday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the Christ the Servant Church’s parking lot at 8700 Havens. Electronics are illegal to throw away in many circumstances, since they harm the environment when piled into landfills. Get rid of them safely and for free this weekend. More information here.

4. Say goodbye to Halloween in the nicest way possible

Okay, so none of us WANT Halloween to be over, but it’s a fact, and throwing your pumpkins in the garbage won’t do any favors to the environment. Downers Grove North and South High Schools will be hosting pumpkin collection and composting events Saturday between 9 a.m. and noon. Put your carved masterpieces to good use! This is one day only. More information here.

5. Knitche it out

If you need a new hobby, give this knitting group in Downers Grove a try. Knitche has classes all the time, but this weekend you can try Introductory Weaving from 1-3 p.m. on Friday ($28 plus materials), Speed Knitting on Saturday from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. ($15 plus materials), Kids Beginning Crochet on Saturday from 12-1:30 p.m. ($20 plus materials), or Beginning Knitting on Sunday from 12-1:30 p.m. ($38 plus materials for two sessions). The community is super fun and friendly, and a huge fan of coffee. More information here.
