Men Posed As Village Workers In Burglary Attempt In Woodridge

The recent ruse burglary attempt in Woodridge is among several similar incidents that have taken place in nearby suburbs.

WOODRIDGE, IL — Woodridge police are sharing crime prevention tips in the wake of a ruse burglary attempt in which burglars came to a home pretending to be village employees.

The residents called police as soon as they suspected the visit was not legitimate, something police say is key if you believe you're the victim of a ruse burglary attempt. During a ruse burglary, visitors pose as workers for local governments, home maintenance or utility services. Often, one person distracts the homeowner or leads them outside while one or more people enter the home and steal items.

Woodridge police also recommend checking for a company or village vehicle and calling to verify the identity of such visitors.
