Village Shares Statement On Lemont Road Warehouse Plans Petition
Hundreds have signed a petition to nix plans for a warehouse along Lemont Road, citing dangers to the safety of residents and environment.
WOODRIDGE, IL — The Village of Woodridge has released a statement regarding a Change.org petition created amid recent speculations of warehouse building plans along Lemont Road and Patch's recent report on the petition. In an email to Patch, the Village of Woodridge said it's aware of the Change.org petition.
"The Village continues to receive numerous inquiries regarding some of the numbers cited in the petition and article," the statement reads. "To ensure easy access to factual information regarding this development, an FAQ has been developed and can be accessed at www.woodridgeil.gov/PC."
The village also said the Plan Commission Consideration website also features the Plan Commission Public Hearing agenda and instructions for how people can participate in the Plan Commission Public Hearing for the Lemont Road Project, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Community members across Woodridge and surrounding areas are urging residents to sign the Change.org petition to stop the development of an industrial warehouse in a residential area north of 83rd Street, between Lemont and Dunham Roads. Hundreds have signed a change.org petition titled "Residents: Don't Let Woodridge Build Another Warehouse Along Lemont Road," which calls on local elected officials to "prioritize lives" by stopping real estate investment management company CA Ventures from placing a 252,377 square-foot warehouse next to homes, which according to the petition, is harmful to the health and safety of local families, the town and environment.

According to the petition, 50 loading docks would bring in an expected 3,510 trucks a day, posing unnecessary risks to Woodridge and neighboring towns of Darien, Downers Grove, Bolingbrook, and Lemont. There would also be 289 parking stalls and 27 trailer stalls.
Organizers of the petition note the plans defy Woodridge's Title 9, Chapter 1 Zoning Purpose and Interpretation to “promote public health, safety, and welfare” and “prohibit structures that are incompatible with the character (of the area).”

The petition cites other factors which could have a negative impact on community members and the environment, including a decrease in nearby property values and tax revenue.
According to a recent post on the Lemont Road Communities United Facebook page, the warehouse would increase the amount of dangerous truck traffic not only along Lemont Road, but also along 75th, 83rd and 87th streets as trucks come from I-55 and I-355.
"It puts the safety of our residents and our children in jeopardy due to increased risk of accidents and also increased air pollution," the group added.
Residents are asked to sign the petition and email the Woodridge Plan Commission, board, the mayor, and CA Ventures, and to "simply say 'no' or add your own personal comment." Residents are also encouraged to attend a public hearing on the matter scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday (virtually or in person).
