Woodridge Apartment Fire Doused by Occupants with Extinguishers

The estimated cost of the damage from the fire is $5,000.

Woodridge, IL — Quick-thinking people inside a Woodridge apartment building June 26 used fire extinguishers to put out small flames in a third-floor stairwell and hallway.

Darien-Woodridge Fire District personnel responded just before 2 p.m. to the apartment building fire in the 7300 block of Woodward Avenue, according to the district.

Crews checked to see if the fire had reached other parts of the structure, and they ventilated the building.

The building is still habitable, though damages are estimated at about $5,000. No one was injured in the fire, the district reports. Investigators are still trying to find the cause of the fire.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and the DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force were called to help with the investigation.

The Darien-Woodridge Fire District was assisted at the scene of the fire by Lisle-Woodridge, Pleasantview and Tri-State fire districts, and the Downers Grove and Hinsdale fire departments and other fire investigators from other departments in the county.
