Woodridge Artist on Career in Painting, Mixed-Media
Woodridge's own Russ Erickson talks about his "lucky" career and why he prefers to take his art on the road to fairs rather than exhibit in galleries.

A Woodridge man who has made a career out of his artwork and imagery is still going strong three and a half decades after a teacher entered him in Chicago’s Gold Coast Art Show when he was still a teenager, the Suburban Life reports.
According to the paper, Russ Erickson, of Erickson Studios, prefers to show his art at fairs rather than in galleries, saying that the former better let him talk to and connect with people.
This upcoming weekend he will attend the Chesterton Art Fair in Porter, Ind., a festival he has been featured at for each of the last 20 years, the paper said.

“I enjoy just playing around and creating something new… and my work has evolved because I’m able to do that,” Erickson told the paper.
“I’ve been lucky enough to be able to make a living. The challenge is always keeping up with trends and finding new shows in different areas.”

According to Erickson’s official website, he plans to attend 25 different fairs and festivals in 2013—and that’s a step down from usual, he writes, as he is taking more time to be close to his family in Woodridge.
