Police Arrest Escaped Indiana Prison Inmate Near Lake Michigan

Police said the inmate escaped from a work detail on prison grounds Wednesday morning and was captured hours later in Beverly Shores.

MICHIGAN CITY, IN — A male inmate authorities said was considered dangerous is back in police custody Thursday morning after escaping Indiana State Prison Wednesday. According to the Michigan City Police Department, 39-year-old Travis Hornett was arrested in Beverly Shores late Wednesday night by Michigan City police, Indiana State Police and DOC staff.

Thank you for all the tips and staying vigilant," Michigan City police said in a Facebook post.

According to police, Hornett escaped from a work detail on prison grounds at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday, and was still believed to be in the area after escaping.

Police said Hornett was described as a white Hispanic male, 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He was wearing khaki clothes when he escaped.
