Indiana Debate Commission Sets U.S. Senate Debate For Oct. 16

The Indiana Debate Commission will host a live televised U.S. Senate debate in this fall’s midterm election.

The debate, to be held October 16, will include all three candidates on the ballot: incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Todd Young and challengers Thomas McDermott, a Democrat, and James Sceniak, a Libertarian.

“The Commission is pleased to continue its long tradition as an independent, non-partisan, volunteer-driven organization focused solely on the goal of putting voters first,” said Commission President Elizabeth Bennion. “We have hosted debates for all of Indiana’s U.S. Senate contests since 2010 and look forward to a vigorous, engaging, and informative debate this fall.”

Hoosiers interested in sending questions for the debate can do so here.

Broadcast time will be 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The debate will be conducted in the studios of WFYI-TV in Indianapolis, and a feed will be available for broadcast and live streaming by media outlets statewide.

Details such as the format, moderator, and procedures for submitting questions for the candidates will be available soon.

The Indiana Debate Commission is a non-partisan, statewide group of affiliate organizations dedicated to promoting debates at the state level. The Commission works with candidates, sponsors, venues, media and citizen groups to promote open, unbiased and transparent debates for Hoosier voters.
