Suspect Wanted In Shooting Of Indiana Officer In Custody: State Police

BREAKING: The officer was treated for his injuries and has since been released.

COLUMBUS, IN — A suspect wanted in the shooting of an Indiana police officer was shot by authorities ending a manhunt that began early Saturday morning. The condition of the suspect is not currently known, Indiana State Police said.

The officer shot and injured early Saturday morning was identified as Joshua McCrary, a nine-year veteran of the Columbus Police Department. McCrary was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and has since been released.

Police say the officer initiated a traffic stop near 11th and Washington Streets around 4:20 a.m. and the vehicle fled from the officer, leading authorities on a pursuit. "The vehicle eventually drove southbound on State Road 11 and turned onto a county road before coming to a stop near a water treatment facility," police said in a statement.

Police say that at some point the suspect exited the vehicle and fired at least one shot from a long gun at the officer.

The suspect's condition is not known at this time.
