Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month
Good day, Alzheimer’s disease is devastating- not only for the more than six million Americans living with the disease, but also for the 11 million family and friends serving as caregivers. Here in Indiana, there are more than 216,000 family caregivers and this number is rapidly increasing. As a volunteer advocate with the Alzheimer’s Association, I understand the challenges Hoosier caregivers are facing. My mother who passed from this horrible disease was one of the very few who was able to receive care provided by her family and a memory care facility for her final days. Many patients do not have either available to them which puts these families not only in a financial crisis but also emotional crisis with devasting results.
Increased research funding would allow a glimpse of hope to our family members/our friends/our medical partners and our loved ones. With this disease increasing its population on our elderly members of society, we are now seeing a increase in growth on younger adults. Alzheimer’s does not discriminate. By working together with the Alzheimer’s Association, we can stop this growth. I am asking Representative Ms. Victoria Spartz to support increased funding for the Alzheimer's Association. This year, we are asking for $226 million in Alzheimer’s and dementia research funding.

It is only through increased awareness and research funding that we will discover new ways to treat and eventually prevent Alzheimer's and other dementias. That is why we need Congress, including our Representative Spartz, to continue investing in this disease. Please know how grateful I am for your support.
