Indiana Winter Weather: School Closings, Canceled Classes
The National Weather Service said dangerously cold wind chills are expected across the state through part of Thursday, Jan. 31.

ACROSS INDIANA — A Wind Chill Warning is in effect for central Indiana beginning 10 p.m. Tuesday until 1 p.m. Thursday, as wind chills of 20 to 45 below zero are expected, according to the National Weather Service. Because of this, several schools across the area and state are canceling classes Wednesday, Jan. 30, as the NWS said the dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as just 10 minutes.
Patch has compiled a list of schools that have canceled classes and events on Wednesday, Jan. 30.
- HSE Schools: Closed Wednesday. K-12 students will have an eLearning Day.
- Carmel Clay Schools: Closed Wednesday
- St Louis de Montfort School: Closed Wednesday
- Avon School Corporation: Closed Wednesday
- Our Lady of Mount Carmel: Closed Wednesday
- Franklin College: Closed until noon Thursday, Jan. 31
- Notre Dame University: The university announced Monday they'll be closing at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 and will reopen at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 due to severe weather.
- Ball State University: Classes canceled from 7 a.m. Wednesday until 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31. "Essential personnel" should report to campus, and residence halls, dining facilities, recreation services and the L.A. Pittenger Student Center will remain open.
- IUPUI: Classes canceled Wednesday but campus will remain open.
- University of Indianapolis: Closed Wednesday through 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31.
- Butler University: Closed Wednesday, but the scheduled Butler Men's Basketball game will take place on campus.
