Due to the varying nature of the work, evening and weekend hours are required. The Hospitality Manager is responsible to the Sportsplex General Manager. The primary function of the Hospitality Manager is to oversee the operation of the Union Lounge and concession stands. This includes Union Lounge operations, operation of concession stands, staff and activity registrations at the Sportsplex. This includes but is not limited to staffing, training, scheduling, ordering and other associated tasks with operating the seven day a week operation at the Sportsplex. This includes ensuring the highest level of customer service of all Sportsplex staff.

Works under the general supervision of the Sportsplex General Manager for the Parks and Recreation Department. This position is part of the Hammond Parks and Recreation administrative team.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervises and directs all Union Lounge operations and operation of the concession stands for the Sportsplex as well as any other department concession stand operations as assigned. Supervises Union Lounge, concession stands and other staff as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare annual budgets for areas of responsibility and work within those guidelines for operations of area of responsibility
- Knowledge and skills of planning, organizing and conducting successful Union Lounge, front line and facility operations
- Knowledge and skills of planning, organizing and conducting successful concession stands, front line and facility operations
- Work closely with department staff to coordinate all facility operations that include having the Union Lounge and concession stands open
- Take orders from customers and submit transactions in POS
- Stock Union Lounge and have it ready for service
- Ability to serve beer and mixed beverages in a fast-paced environment
- Check identification of customers in Union Lounge to determine age
- Balance cash drawer(s) as needed
- Hires, supervises, trains, schedules and evaluates staff for the Union Lounge and concession stands
- Handle money, operate and balance cash register, make daily deposits, secure petty cash, prepare and secure cash drawer(s) for change, coordinate credit card purchases abiding by City policy in
- coordination with bookkeeper, City Controller’s Office and State Board of Accounts policies
- Facilitate effective communication, leadership and problem-solving skills with customers and staff
- Implements rules and procedures as approved by Board of Park Commissioners for event registration, staff and all other necessary requirements to operate assigned programs
- Oversee, schedule and coordinate facility events, concession stands, and Union Lounge for use
- Assigns specific tasks to College Bound volunteers, Community Service workers and/or volunteers or other assigned employees to perform work to meet department goals or program needs
- Follows and initiates the correct procedure during emergency situations (weather, medical, etc.)
- Observes all regulations that pertain to you as a staff member and oversee the same for supervised staff
- Acts in a hospitable manner and ensures the same of other supervised staff at all times
- Works with other Parks Department staff, when required, for city-wide events
- Perform other duties as required and other tasks which include supervision, coordination and assistance at special events and programs as assigned
PERIPHERAL DUTIES
- Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Must have current Employee Permit with the State of Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission
- And/or One (1) – Three (3) years’ experience in working as a bar, lounge or concessions manager or other similar equivalent experience in a supervisory position dealing with bar, lounge, and/or concessions
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Possess the knowledge and skills for planning, organizing and operating Union Lounge and concessions stands
- Possess the “ServSafe Food Handler” certification or have the ability to acquire same certification within two (2) months of hire
- Possess the ability to train, manage, schedule and oversee operations for the Sportsplex Union Lounge, concession stands, front line customer service and facility maintenance personnel
- Ability to work well with coworkers, the general public and facility users as well as be driven to work well independently
- Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills both in written and verbal communication
- Must have computer literacy in word processing, data base, spread sheets and desktop publishing programs
- Possess the knowledge of athletics including basketball, volleyball and soccer
- Ability to speak Spanish is desired
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- State of Indiana Driver’s License
- Possess the “ServSafe Food Handler” certification or have the ability to acquire same certification within two (2) months of hire
- Must have a current Employee Permit with the State of Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certification
- Proof of and continued residency in the City of Hammond during employment term

Approximately 85% of the position is done in the Union Lounge and concession stands while the other part is done in City of Hammond Parks and Recreation facilities.
