• Fifteen Indiana Hospitals Earned Top Marks For Patient Safety (wrkr.com) — Northwest Health – La Porte has earned an A grade for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group, putting it among just 15 Indiana hospitals with top marks. The report highlights strong performance in preventing errors, surgery outcomes, and staffing, giving La Porte residents reassuring news about local hospital care quality.
   

• Mrvan Announces COPS Grant Awards in Northwest Indiana (wimsradio.com) — La Porte will receive a $500,000 federal COPS Hiring Program grant to add four police officers, boosting community policing and crime prevention in the city. Congressman Frank Mrvan and Mayor Tom Dermody praised the award, while a separate grant will enhance school safety in River Forest Community School Corporation elsewhere in Northwest Indiana.
   

• Notice is hereby given that Lyfestyles LLC has filed for (lpheralddispatch.com) — A new convenience-style grocery, bakery, and ice cream shop is proposed for 401 Medical Plaza Drive in Michigan City, within La Porte County, and needs a zoning variance. The Michigan City Board of Zoning Appeals will hear the request on January 13, 2026, at 6 p.m. at City Hall and via Zoom, and residents can attend or submit written comments.
