Chief deputy: Body found in burning vehicle remains unidentified (thestarpress.com) — Authorities are investigating after a body was discovered in a burning vehicle early Sunday along County Road 500 South, just southeast of Muncie in Delaware County. The victim has not yet been identified, and investigators from the sheriff’s department and state fire marshal are releasing few details while asking anyone with information to contact local law enforcement.

3. Jury finds Muncie man guilty of unlawful possession of firearm (thestarpress.com) — A Delaware County jury has found a 27-year-old Muncie man guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and intimidation with a deadly weapon. He was arrested in January 2023 after police reported finding him with a handgun, and now faces a possible lengthy prison term when sentenced on January 2.

Armed man accused of stealing gold necklace during Facebook Marketplace sale at Starbucks in Noblesville (fox59.com) — A Facebook Marketplace jewelry sale that turned into an armed robbery in Noblesville has a Muncie connection, as the suspect first tried to arrange the meetup here before the sellers chose a Starbucks in Hamilton County. Police say a 20-year-old Anderson man ultimately stole the $7,200 necklace at gunpoint, fled in a car later stopped near Lapel, and now faces multiple felony charges.

Report Analyzes Higher Education Anti-DEI Legislative Initiatives in Six U.S. States (jbhe.com) — Ball State University in Muncie is among several colleges that have closed or rebranded some diversity, equity, and inclusion offices in response to new state-level restrictions. A new report from USC researchers finds Indiana is one of six states leading anti-DEI legislation in higher education, raising concerns about reduced support and access for marginalized students and staff.
