The brothers were at the lake with two other teens, all of whom were from South Bend, according to media reports.
SOUTH BEND, IN — Two brothers died after four South Bend area teens were pulled Sunday from Lake Michigan during a trip to Warren Dunes State Park, according to police.
Ahmad and Saleem Qasem were underwater for 35 minutes before they were recovered from the lake and later pronounced dead, the South Bend Tribune reported, adding the boys were students at St. Joseph High School.
The incident occurred just about 6 p.m., when four teens entered the lake and three began to struggle, according to the Tribune. Bystanders helped two of the teens to shore, but it took emergency crews much longer to find the brothers, the Tribune reported.
