Staff Member Killed In Accident At Iowa Middle School

A Dubuque Community Schools building and grounds staff member was killed in an accident on the football field at Roosevelt Middle School.

DUBUQUE, IA — A Dubuque Community Schools buildings and grounds staff member was killed in an accident Tuesday afternoon at Eleanor Roosevelt Middle School, a school district spokesperson confirmed to Patch.

The accident occurred on the football field at the school, and the school district is withholding the name of the victim out of respect for their family and loved ones, according to a letter sent from Roosevelt Middle School Principal Jeff Johll to school families and staff members.

No students were on or near the field when the accident occurred, according to the letter.

"Please keep this individual's family and friends, as well as their district and school colleagues, in your thoughts during this difficult time," Johll said.

The school will provide counseling at the school Thursday for any students or staff members who need it, according to the letter.

School activities were canceled Wednesday and student dismissals occurred in the front of the school as officials Dubuque law enforcement and school officials kept the area in the rear of the building clear.
