Ames Man Charged with Drug Possession and OWI After Allegedly Throwing Beer Can from Window

Brandon Cory faces three felony charges after allegedly driving under the influence Friday morning. Ames Police Blotter Aug. 31 to Sept. 3.

Driving while under the influence is never a good idea, but doing it with a car full of drugs is definitely bad.

Throwing a beer can out the window while driving under the influence with a car full of drugs is worse, as a 25-year-old Ames man discovered early Friday.

An Ames resident called police Friday saying they saw a man throw a beer can from his window while driving erratically, said Sgt. Rory Echer.

Police stopped the driver, Brandon Cory, and charged him with operating while intoxicated and a number of felony drug charges.

During the stop, police discovered that Cory possessed a quantity of methamphetamine and marijuana as well as a marijuana cigarette, Echer said. This took place about 8 a.m. Aug. 31.

Cory was charged with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, a Class B felony; possession with intent to deliver marijuana; a Class D felony, violation of the drug tax stamp act, a Class D felony, possession of a controlled substance, and operating while intoxicated, first offense; both serious misdemeanors. A Class B felony is punishable by up to 25 years in prison and a Class D felony is punishable by up to five years in prison.

Aug. 31

Brandon Cory, 25, Welch Avenue, was charged with possession with intent methamphetamine and violation of the drug tax stamp act, operating while intoxicated first offense possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance at 9:30 a.m.

Kyle Wolcott, 18, Maple, was charged with public consumption and fifth-degree criminal mischief at 10:47 a.m.

Sept. 1

Tyler Hemphill, 21, Ankeny, was charged with public intoxication, second offense at 2:40 a.m.

Wiejung Kim, 22, S. 16th Street, was charged with public intoxication, first offense at 2:24 a.m.

Elizabeth Li, 22, Manson, was charged with public intoxication at 12:35 a.m.

Christopher Long, 28, Twain Street, was charged with public consumption at 2:05 a.m.

Jessica Ritts, 22, Manson, was charged with public intoxication at 1:05 a.m.

Colleen Smith, 49, Scott Street, was charged with fourth-degree theft at 1:15 p.m.

Matthew Sobotka, 20, Steinbeck Street, was charged with operating while intoxicated, first offense at 1:26 a.m.

Sept. 2

Abdullah Almjaibel, 21, Welch Avenue, was charged with public intoxication, first offense; and assault on a peace officer at 4:02 a.m.

Alexander Gjengdhal, 24, Saint Paul, was charged with public intoxication, first offense at 1:06 a.m.

David Jones, 22, Norwalk, was charged with interference with official acts and public consumption at 3:23 a.m.

Nathan Stienstra, 27, Orange City, was charged with public consumption and third-degree burglary at 2:55 a.m.

Nkereuwem Tim, 29, Des Moines, was charged with public consumption at 2:02 a.m.

Kurt Willims, 24, S. 5th Street, was charged with public intoxication at 12:48 a.m.

Sept. 3

Garrett Sager, 22, Fremont, was charged with domestic abuse and child endangerment at 12:18 a.m.
