Ames Woman Sentenced in Skateboarder Hit-and-Run

Shelly Habhab was sentenced to two years in prison for running into a skateboarder in Campustown and driving away.

Shelly Renee Habhab, who was charged in an April 1 hit and run accident in Campustown, has pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of the accident and was sentenced to two years in prison, according to Story County court records available on line.

Habhab entered a written plea of guilty to leaving the scene of a serious injury accident in which she collided with an Ames man traveling by skateboard. The charge is an aggravated misdemeanor.

According to initial reports, Tyler Clark, then 22, was on his skateboard traveling north on Hayward Avenue at Chamberlain Street when Habhab tried to turn left onto Chamberlain Street and collided with Clark.

Clark hit the car's passenger side and windshield but Habhab continued traveling down Chamberlain Street. 

Clark, then 22, was treated for his injuries at Mary Greeley Medical Center.

Police identified the car involved in the accident through video surveillance and input from the public just a few days after the collision. Police seized a 2001 Silver Lincoln LS, registered to a Daniel Habhab of Ames on April 6.

Shelly Habhab was charged in June.
