The Ames City Council approved $200,000 in grant awards to local organizations to expand access to arts programming at its March 8 meeting. The seven grant awards will be used to fund capital projects that create and improve spaces in Ames for arts and artists to flourish and contribute to making Ames a fun and vibrant community.

The grant recipients are:

Each recipient will utilize the spaces improved through the grant award to support activities that are open to the public. Projects are to be completed no later than June 30, 2023. Funding for the grant awards was made available from savings in the City’s General Fund in FY 2020/21.

“The City Council is delighted to provide this support to a dedicated group of local arts organizations,” said Ames Mayor John Haila. “These projects will both help our local arts community to prosper and improve access to arts activities for Ames residents.”

The City of Ames maintains two resident commissions dedicated to advancing the arts in Ames. The Ames Public Art Commission establishes public art philosophy, recommends funding allocations for public art within City facilities, develops guidelines for selecting artwork, and develops educational, promotional projects for public arts programming. The Ames Commission on the Arts develops recommendations for the distribution of arts funding to local arts organizations.
