📰 News we're reading

• CyRide receives federal funding to convert 20 buses to 100% biodiesel (bioenergytimes.com) — CyRide has secured federal funding to convert 20 more buses to run on 100% biodiesel and significantly expand its Ames facilities, boosting capacity and reliability for local riders. The project will add indoor storage for the full fleet, expand maintenance and training space, and build on a successful B100 pilot that’s already cutting emissions with fuel produced in Iowa.

• Prairie strips can improve soil health (southeastiowaunion.com) — In research led from Ames at Iowa State University, scientists found that prairie strips planted within crop fields can significantly improve soil health in just 10–12 years. The strips boosted soil stability, organic matter, microbial life and water-holding capacity, all with minimal impact on yields. These findings could help Story County and other Iowa farmers enhance long-term productivity and resilience.

• WSU hires Kirby Moore as next head football coach (dnews.com) — Ames gets a brief but notable mention as reports suggest WSU defensive coordinator Jesse Bobbit may follow new Iowa State head coach Jimmy Rogers to Ames as the Cyclones’ co-defensive coordinator. The story mainly tracks Washington State’s hiring of Missouri offensive coordinator Kirby Moore as its new head football coach and the program’s broader transition in the reformed Pac-12. Local fans can watch how these coaching moves shape Iowa State’s staff.
