(1416 20th St., Ames) will hold a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. on April 6 in the north sanctuary. The service will be a series of Scripture readings, hymns and prayers, and is designed to an adaptation of the ancient Holy Week tradition of Tenebrae (which means “shadows”). The light will be progressively dimmed by extinguishing a candle as each set of readings and music is completed. By the time the “seventh word” is read, the room will be in subdued lighting, an invitation for the congregation to leave in silence.
Northminster’s church building is on one level and restricted parking is posted on the east side for convenient access. Child care will be provided during the service. For additional information, call the church office, 233-2540.
