Federal Government Shutdown Affects Ames

The Farm Service Agency, Ames Lab and federal research funding could all be cut off during the government shutdown.

With the federal government shutting down, Ames residents will still be able to visit the post office, but they won't be able to apply for farm programs and the Ames Lab planned to scale back as well.

The Iowa Farm Service Agency director told the Ames Tribune that if a shutdown took place late Monday that they would “begin an orderly shutdown process” as soon as Tuesday morning.

“No business would be conducted,” Director John Whitaker said.
