Fellows Takes Healthiest State Walk on International Walk to School Day
Fellows Elementary School students were among thousands of Iowans who went for a walk today. The walk was a biannual fitness walk the students take around the Fellows neighborhood twice a year.
With both International Walk to School Day and Healthiest State Walk both happening in Iowa Wednesday it seemed the perfect day for Fellows Elementary School's fall fitness walk.
The biannual walk around the school's perimeter allowed almost all 471 students to extend their outdoor recess by about 30 minutes.
Students lined up on the blacktop, standing in rows with their buddies of another grade that they meet with throughout the year before setting out to look for signs of fall.

Some students took the hands of their younger buddies, carefully guiding them along the route, stopping to pick up Autumn leaves and point out pumpkins.
“They love it,” said Fellows Elementary School Principal Carol Page. “It's so fun to look back,” she said and see the entire school.
