ISU Vet Tech Accused of Stealing Fentanyl from Vet College

An Iowa State University vet tech has been accused of stealing the pain medication fentanyl from the college of veterinary medicine.

An Iowa State University vet tech was charged by Iowa State University police last week for allegedly stealing the pain medication, fentanyl, from the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Kari Lynn Boyer, 35, of Boone was charged with prohibited acts, a class C felony. Police searched her home and found syringes and vials of liquid believed to be Fentanyl, according to a report from WOI.

Boyer admitted to taking the medication from the college and about 19,000 micrograms of Fentanyl was found missing from the school in July and August. Boyer is accused of stealing the drug from the college since December, according to an AP report that appeared on WWW.sfgate.com.

Fentanyl is a powerful pain medication similar to morphine according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Boyer turned herself in on the charge and was later release from Story County Jail. Class C felonies are punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
