Kingland: Major Retailer Interested in Campustown Development

A software company's plans to demolish and rebuild a block of Campustown has piqued the interest of at least one major retailer, according to reports.

A major retailer may be interested in a redeveloped Campustown property, Kingland Systems representatives said at a meeting Tuesday, according to an article in the Ames Tribune.

Kingland Systems purchased nine buildings in Campustown and wants to demolish almost a block of buildings on Lincoln Way and replace them with a new three-story building because it would be cheaper than renovations, Todd Rognes, president of Kingland Systems, said as reported by the Ames Tribune.

Kingland Software plans to knock down the businesses from Charlie Yokes east to Stanton Avenue and build a 75,000 square foot, three-story building on Lincoln Way.

The software company would rent the first floor of their new building to retail tenants. The second floor would house Kingland Software offices and the third story may be rented to Iowa State University for office space.

Rognes said that one national retail company is interested in the project, but couldn't disclose who that retailer is.
