Meet A Future Leader In Ames: Sarah Park

The future of Ames is looking bright, thanks to the incredible young people working to strengthen our community. In partnership with T-Mobile, Patch is proud to spotlight future leaders like Sarah Park, who are making a positive impact in and around Ames.

Sarah, a 2024 graduate of Ames High School and current biochemistry major at Columbia University, exemplifies a remarkable blend of academic excellence, musical talent, and leadership. This John Jay Scholar brings her passion for science and her dedication to service to her studies.

While at Ames, she was actively involved in programs like Ames High HEROS, Science Olympiad, Biology Olympiad, Symphony Orchestra, and Key Club, reflecting her diverse talents and commitment to her community. In 2024, she was one of 11 Ames High School semifinalists in the 69th annual National Merit Scholarship Program and one of just two Iowa seniors named a U.S. Presidential Scholar. She also received the Korean Honor Scholarship from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, and was named as a 2023 USA Biology Olympiad (USABO) semifinalist.

Equally accomplished in music, Sarah was a four-time Iowa All-State Violist and selected for the 2023 All-National Honor Ensembles by the National Association for Music Education. These achievements, alongside her academic and extracurricular success, highlight Sarah’s dedication and potential as a future leader in science and beyond.
