Two ISU Athletes Charged With Providing Alcohol to Minors

Iowa State University athletes among those charged for providing alcohol people under the age of 21, during a sting in which police officers monitored purchases at A.J.'s Liquor.

Tyrus McGee, an Iowa State basketball player, and Quenton Bundrage, an Iowa State football player, both 21, were charged with purchasing alcohol for minors over the weekend.

McGee, was seen meeting with another man outside A.J.'s Liquor just before 9 p.m. Saturday, according to a criminal complaint. He then went inside and purchased a six-pack of Michelob Light and came back out and met with the man and handed him the beer, complaints said. The man who took it was under age, complaints said.

McGee admitted to buying the beer but said that he didn't know the man. That man Ryan Lawton, 18, of Council Bluffs, was cited for possession of alcohol under legal age.

About the same thing happened to Bundrage on Friday, according to an article in the Ames Tribune. Police followed Bundrage after he made a purchase at the store and watched as another under-age man left his car with an alcoholic beverage in his hand.

The arrests were part of an alcohol enforcement sting. Providing alcohol to persons under the age of 21 is a serious misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of at least $500.

Sept. 21

Quenton Bundrage, 21, Stanton Ave., was charged with providing alcohol to persons under the age of 21 at 9:25 p.m.

Zachary Edwards, 22, N. Hyland, was charged with possession of alcohol under legal age at 10:20 p.m.

Natasha Gallegos, 24, Ellsworth, was charged with fourth-degree theft at 4:18 p.m.

Mitchell Gilliland, 22, Des Moines, was charged with providing alcohol to persons under 21, at 8:35 p.m.

Marisa Wilson, 22, Welch Ave., was charged with providing alcohol to persons under 21, at 7:45 p.m.

Sept. 22

Theodore Fick, 21, Friley, was charged with providing alcohol to persons under 21 at 8:45 p.m.

Christopher Long, 21, Ankeny, was charged with operating while intoxicated, first offense at 1:05 a.m.

Cody Lutzen, 26, Delaware Avenue, was charged with disorderly conduct at 2:22 a.m.

Ryan Lawton, 18, Council Bluffs, was cited for possession of alcohol under legal age.

Tyrus McGee, 21, Mayfield Drive, was charged with providing alcohol to persons under 21 at 8:50 p.m.

Forrest Nicholson, 18, Willow Hall, was charged with public intoxication, first offense; and providing false information to a peace officer, at 12:00 a.m.

Sept. 23

Jordan Gheer Bertrand, 24, Emerald Drive, was charged with public intoxication, first offense; and fifth-degree criminal mischief at 1:45 a.m.

Derek Lee, 23, Twain Street, was charged with public intoxication, first offense at 9:44 p.m.

Jamaine Simmons, 25, Toronto, was charged with second-degree harassment and reckless driving at 3:32 p.m. He was accused of forcing another driver off the road.

Mackenzie Thompson, 20, Mortensen Road, was charged with possession of alcohol under legal age, making false licenses, ID forms, and providing false information to a peace officer, at 12:15 a.m.

Sept. 24

Taylor Bleeker, 19, Martin Hall, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, at 11:09 p.m.
