What's Happening in Ames this Weekend?

Bliss Fashion Show, Maximum Ames Music Festival, FACEs Festival and the Octagon Art Show all part of the weekend.

Bliss Fashion Show

A few of Ames fashionable businesses are teaming up with the Mary Greeley Medical Center for a Bliss Fashion Show 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Ayden Lee that will raise funds for the William Bliss Cancer Resource Center. Studio 7 Salon & Spa, Ayden Lee and Pure Bridal have sponsored the show.

Tickets are $20 now and $25 on the day of the show. Sponsors are giving food, drinks, clothing and door prizes.

FACES of Ames Festival and Concert

FACES of Ames, a celebration of Ames' diversity, takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Bandshell Park. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band will perform free at the bandshell at 6 p.m. as part of the Maximum Ames Music Festival.

Octagon Art Festival

The 42nd Annual Octagon Art Festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday throughout the Main Street cultural district of downtown Ames. More than 100 artists will set up booths. Admission is free and thousands are expected to attend. Children’s art activities will be available in front of the Octagon Center for the Arts along the 400 block of Douglas Avenue.

British Bike Fest

Char's Chip Shop will host a British motorcycle rally from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Obsidian's Dream will perform as part of the Maximum Ames Music Festival.

Maximum Ames Music Festival

Maximum Ames Music Festival opens Thursday with a poetry reading at the Space for Ames and features more than 100 local and national artists, including Jeff Mangum and Wanda Jackson, over four days. Many musical acts are $10 or less.

Ames Public Library Book Sale

Ames Public Library will host a four-day book sale starting Friday. Admission is $2 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and free from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday.
