Ankeny Schools' Winter Clothing Drive Ends Friday
Coats and other winter outerwear collected at 16 Ankeny schools this week will be distributed to those in need on Nov. 11 and 13.

ANKENY, IA — Project Fresh Start, supported by Ankeny Community School District's Community Engagement, is in the midst of collecting winter clothing in the district's 16 schools. Items may be donated through Friday at any of the district's 16 schools.
Project Fresh Start, a volunteer program in Ankeny, has provided free school supplies, backpacks, prom dresses and more to students for more than a decade. A new program through that volunteer effort is FEWD — Faith and Education Winter Donations. It is a joint effort with area churches to combat the need for winter wear among children in the community.
Following the collection of coats, hats, gloves, boots and other warm winter outerwear, two distribution dates will be held to provide the garments to families in need. Families can visit Parkview Middle School, 105 N.W. Pleasant St., from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, or 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13. There is no need to sign up or register to receive the clothing; recipients will only be asked for the student's age and proof of an Ankeny residence, such as a driver’s license or bill with an Ankeny address.
