Ankeny City Manager Named
Ankeny chose its city manager at a special meeting Wednesday night.

The Ankeny City Council voted Wednesday to hire David Jones as the next City Manager.
The decision was made at a special meeting.
Jones was a county administrator for Polk County.
“I am very excited at the prospect of serving as Ankeny city manager,” Jones said in a prepared statement. “My family and I live in Ankeny and are very much a part of community life here. Professionally, I look forward to working with the city council and staff to build upon the success of our outstanding community.”

The Ankeny City Council will meet in a closed session tonight to discuss city manager candidates.
The candidates met with the public Tuesday and were interviewed this week.

Two of six finalists dropped out before visiting town. The remaining finalists are:
David Jones, county administrator, Polk County, Iowa
Craig Malin, city administrator, Davenport, Iowa
William J. Malinen, city manager, Roseville, Minnesota
Cole O’Donnell, city administrator, East Moline, Illinois
The former longtime Ankeny City Manager Carl Metzger took early retirement in June 2012. Metzger worked for the city for 27 years and served as the city manager since 1985. Leadership has been unstable since his retirement.
Jones would replace Jim Spradling the Interim manager.
