4 UNI Staffers Receive 'Excellence Awards'

UNI staff members receive 2012 Regents Excellence Awards
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Four University of Northern Iowa staff members received 2012 Staff Excellence Awards, given by the Board of Regents, State of Iowa.

Regents Staff Excellence Award recipients at UNI are: Tim Bakula, associate director of the Office of Student Financial Aid; Ken Bauer, information technology specialist, Rod Library; Rosanne L. Lang, dining unit manager, Rialto dining; and Lyn Redington, director of residence life.
Bakula is known for his professionalism, enthusiasm and leadership. His accomplishments include the expansion of the financial aid parent session at summer orientation and implementation of online time cards for student employees, along with improving and expanding outreach publications and activities. His nominators highlighted his passion for helping parents and students with financial literacy and his dedication to customer service.

Bauer plays a critical role in the success of Rod Library. Bauer is responsible for library servers, which run important UNI resources including the library catalog (UNISTAR), the Panther Prowler research engine, the Find It! link resolver, the EZproxy remote user authentication service and various data storage servers. His nominators emphasized his experience and depth of knowledge, along with his reliability and dedication to hard work.
Lang has worked for UNI dining services for more than 26 years. In her time at dining services, Lang has actively participated in the development, implementation and improvement of two residential dining renovations, hired and trained thousands of employees, and enthusiastically welcomed students, staff and guests to UNI. Nominators noted her enthusiasm and her commitment to personal and professional development.
Redington is known for her dedication and skilled organization as the director of residence life. Redington oversees a community of more than 4,300 students, and her nominators note her tireless work and the great impact she has on students. She recently returned from a project in South Africa, where she helped teach housing professionals how to excel in their profession.
The awards are presented annually to staff members in the professional and scientific ranks, and biennially to a member of the supervisory/confidential merit personnel, who have demonstrated outstanding professional contributions to UNI during their careers. Recipients are nominated by their colleagues and peers.
