Activities Planned for UNI's Family Weekend: Sumo-Robotics, Sports, Chemistry Magic and More
It's Family Weekend at the University of Northern Iowa, with a full slate of activities to keep parents and students busy.

The University of Northern Iowa will host events and activities for students' parents and family members of all ages during Family Weekend, Sept. 28-30.
The weekend will kick off with the UNI vs. Missouri State volleyball game at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 28, in the McLeod Center.

On Saturday, the Family Feast Tailgate will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Rialto Dining Center. Afterwards, families can head to the Maucker Union coffee house to watch the Dean of Juggling perform at 2:30 p.m. The show features Dean Franzen, a mathematics professor at UNI, along with Doug Sayers, who is a three-time world champion juggler. Guests can also tour the UNI Botanical Center's greenhouses from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences will present a chemistry magic show in Lantz Auditorium. This popular show will be held at 11 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. There will also be mini-sumo robotics demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 2 pm. in Begeman Hall, Room 114.

The UNI John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center will host an elevator pitch competition at 10 a.m., at the Business and Community Services Building. From 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., families can compete in teams and get creative to create a business or product from everyday objects.
Other events include a volleyball game against Wichita State at 8:30 p.m. and a football matchup between UNI and North Dakota State at 6 p.m., Sept. 29, in the UNI-Dome.
Also, on Sept. 29, various programs, academic colleges and departments will host activities, open houses and special tours for students and their families. Patch has printed a full list of activities.
