Vigil, Funeral Held for Waterloo Man Killed in Shooting:

Shantorio Evans, 22, was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting in Waterloo Sunday. On Tuesday, about 50 of Evans' friends and family gathered to remember him at a candlelight vigil. Wake and funeral arrangements have also been set.Read more at KWWL.

Former UNI Student Sentenced in Sexual Abuse Case:

Taylor Jordan Paulus, 21, of Plymouth, Minn., was sentenced to up to ten years in prison for allegedly bringing a girl, 14, from Missouri to his University of Northern Iowa dorm and having sex with her in 2011. Read more at The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.

Poverty and Iowa's Children:

The number of children living in poverty has increased over the past ten years in each of Iowa's 99 counties, according to the newly released annual Iowa Kids Count report.

Childhood poverty rates exceed 25 percent in Black Hawk County, and the median before-tax household income in the Waterloo-Cedar Falls metropolitan area dropped by nearly $2,200 in one year, going from $46,613 in 2010 to $44,416 in 2011.
