Encore: Cedar Falls Editor's Note: How Friends, Community Supported Missing Student
The story behind Hawkeye Community College student Taylor Lee Franco's disappearance remains a mystery. But the support and love community members sent over the Internet is a story in its own right.

The story of the disappearance and finding of Hawkeye Community College student Taylor Lee Franco is a mysterious one.
The Davenport native, 19, reportedly tried to enter a home near La Porte City on April 1, apparently believing it to be his own, then left with the owner's dog but without his shoes.
A day later he was found, not by the teams of law enforcement agents or volunteers out hunting for him, but by cyclist Joel Bishop, who saw Franco wandering on the Cedar Valley Nature Trail adjacent to Gilbertville.

Taylor had the dog with him, and the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier has a touching story about that faithful coonhound, who followed the teen and stuck with him through the night.
But it wasn't just a stranger's dog who stuck by Franco. In the hours following his disappearance, a flood of support was sent out over the Internet.

Friends, acquaintances and community members reached out on Twitter, first expressing disbelief at the news, then sending prayers for safety and promises to help with the search and, finally, writing their relief when he was found.
Why Franco was wandering in the woods isn't yet known, at least not publicly. What is clear, however, is that there are many who care for him and were rooting for him. And in a world where people who go missing are too often never found, and where those in need are too often ignored, that's a story worth sharing.
