Schmidt Wins Cedar Falls Ward 4 Runoff

Mare Schmidt won against contender Jim Miller.

Mare Schmidt beat Jim Miller by 64 votes in today's Cedar Falls City Council ward 4 runoff election. She will replace Kamyar Enshayan on the council.

Schmidt took 172 votes to Miller's 108.

The turnout was low, at just over 6 percent.

In the November general election Schmidt had 35 percent of the ballots, followed by Miller with 32 percent. Carol Hanson and Carol Cooper were eliminted in that election, with 22 percent and 11 percent of the vote, respectively.

Schmidt is a board member of Cedar Falls Community Main Street, Cedar Falls Senior/Community Center, Cedar Falls Rotary Club, board member and president-elect of Cedar Falls Trees and a member of the city's organization and development committee. She owns .
