UPDATE: Name, Condition Released of Child Struck by Motorist in Cedar Falls

The girl was struck by a motorist last week.

Cedar Falls police have released more information about an accident in which a Cedar Falls girl was stuck by a motorist last week.

Ava Monaghan, 8, was riding a motorized scooter when she was hit by a car as she crossed the road. Police said the driver, Matthew Rzepka, 17, of Waterloo, said he tried to swerve, but couldn’t avoid her. There were skid marks on the road.

Police said Monaghan was tossed several feet from the collision before she struck the concrete. She was not wearing a helmet.

Police said she had non-incapacitating injuries.

Earlier reporting, April 24:

Police said an eight-year old girl riding a motorized scooter was struck by a car in Cedar Falls Tuesday night.

Cedar Falls Police said the girl, whose name was not released, sustained injuries and was transported to Covenant Hospital in Waterloo by Sartori Paramedics. Her condition was not released. Police said she lives on Valley High Drive in Cedar Falls.

According to police, Matthew Rzepka, 17, of Waterloo, was driving southbound on Rownd Street when he struck the child at around 6:18 p.m. Police said witnesses reported the girl had crossed Rownd Street near Valley High Drive without looking or yielding to traffic.

Police said the investigation into the accident is complete and no charges are expected to be filed.
