Child Trafficking Explored as Evansdale Cousins Abduction Case Hits 4 Months

Today marks an anniversary no parent should have to remember.

It's been four months since two Evansdale cousins went missing. Authorities are still searching for clues, and friends and family continue to hope and pray.

Lyric Cook-Morrissey, 11, and her cousin, Elizabeth Collins, 9, went missing July 13. Police announced they considered their disappearance an abduction about a week later after an extensive search around Meyers Lake, near where they were last seen.

Investigators are exploring whether abductions in Iowa are part of a larger problem of child trafficking, according to a special report by KWWL.

Iowa has all the ingredients to play a role in such rings, KWWL reports, citing the state's access to major highways and abundance of small towns where children believe they are sheltered from harm.

Authorities aren't saying whether they think the case of Lyric and Elizabeth is one of child trafficking, and the Collins parents say they don't know but nonetheless it should serve as a call to action.

"It's time to get mad! If you have a grandson, a grand daughter, a you're an uncle or a parent, we all need to stand up and say enough is enough!" Drew Collins said.
