A summary of corrections and clarifications in the Cedar Falls Patch.


We take transparency seriously. We're committed to accuracy, to acknowledging our mistakes and to fixing them as quickly as possible. Corrections are noted by an editor's note in italics at the bottom of the story.

We do our best to get the facts right, but sometimes things slip through the cracks nods. If you see a factual error, tell us about it and we'll make sure we get it right.

- Correction: In a story from Jan. 18, 2012, "Dispatches: Rebirth of a Dying District: Cedar Falls Saving Main Street," the story said the Cedar Falls Community Theatre got possession of the Oster Regent Theatre building in 1977. The group was formed in 1977, but got possesion of the building in 1990 and started performing there in 1994. Patch regrets the error. Updated at 12:33 p.m. Jan. 19. The article was changed to reflect the correction, and we added a note to alert readers to the mistake.

- Correction: In a story from Dec. 15, 2011, "Who Won, Lost the Debate? We'll Tell You What Others Think, You Tell Us What You Think," a quote was ascribed to the wrong person. Ryan Grimes, not Dennis Goldford, said the following: "I was happy to hear Newt talk about his time as speaker of the house. It made me feel nostalgic for those times we had a balanced budget and Republicans were kind of having a bit of a revolution and were coming into power and conservative issues were coming up. It made me feel like Newt could offer that again." We caught the error the morning after the story went up, the article was changed to reflect the correction, and we added a note to alert readers to the mistake.

- Correction: A story from Dec. 12, 2011, “UNI Museum in Cedar Falls Faces Uncertain Future,” incorrectly said the museum had 50,000 to 70,000 visitors yearly. It should have read the museum reaches 50,000 to 70,000 people yearly. That figure is a combined count of visitors and outreach through Internet postings, email, satellite exhibits, publications, traveling trunk rentals and other education materials. We caught the error shortly after the story went up, the article was changed to reflect the correction, and we added a note to alert readers to the mistake.

- Correction: A story from Dec. 1, 2011, “On World AIDS Day, HIV-Positive Iowans Continue to Face Stigma,” incorrectly stated 200 percent of the poverty level was $14,000. It is $21,780. We caught the error shortly after the story went up, the article was changed to reflect the correction, and we added a note to alert readers to the mistake.

- Correction: A story from Nov. 23, 2011, “Hagen Art Gallery Enjoying More Traffic At New Cedar Falls Location,” incorrectly said the gallery had been purchased from Henry W. Myrtle. That was a fictitious moniker used to name the gallery. The former owner’s real name is Hugh Pettersen. We caught the error shortly after the story went up, the article was changed to reflect the correction, and we added a note to alert readers to the mistake.
