Update: Danielson Wins; Reisetter Concedes After Close Race

Democrat Jeff Danielson is the winner for Iowa's Senate District 30, prevailing by a small margin over Republican Matt Reisetter.

The Iowa Secretary of State's website has declared incumbent Democrat Sen. Jeff Danielson, of Cedar Falls, the winner over Republican challenger Matt Reisetter in the contest for Iowa Senate District 30..

Reisetter said he called Danielson to congratulate him early Wednesday morning.

"We are proud of the race that we ran. We said we were going to run an issues based campaign that was honorable and fair. I can honestly look anyone in the eye and say that we did that," he said. "We’re thankful for the support we had from voters, from volunteers and from donors. We look forward to continue to help Iowa become a better state."

The margin between the two candidates was slim. The Secretary of State's office shows Danielson up by 390 votes, while the Black Hawk County Auditor has Danielson winning by 616 votes. Officials don't immediately have an answer as to why there is a discrepency.

“I’m honored to earn the privilege to represent the Cedar Valley as their senator for another four years," Danielson said. "While the challenges we face may change from time to time, my approach will not. Do your homework, treat people decent and solve the problem.”

The race helps preserve Democrat's power in the Iowa Senate, giving Democrats 26 seats to Republican's 23.

Kyle Jensson, elections manager for the Black Hawk County Auditor's office, said 510 provisional ballots remain to be counted and will be considered at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Absentee ballots could also still arrive.
