UPDATE: Did You Know Harassment of a Public Official Was a Crime? Cedar Falls Police Blotter

Editor's note: We've seen two arrests with charges of "harassment of a public official" this week, a charge we haven't seen before on the Cedar Falls police blotter. So we thought we'd find out more about what that charge means.
Here's what the Iowa legal code says:
HARASSMENT OF PUBLIC OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES. Any person who willfully prevents or attempts to prevent any public officer or employee from performing the officer's or employee's duty commits a simple misdemeanor.

Police said the two people charged with "harassment of a public official" in the past week both got the charge because they gave false names when police arrested them.

May 26:
Brittenie Lynne Buehner, 25, female, of Waterloo, arrested at 10:06 a.m. at the same location, charged with forgery.
John Marlin Willett, 19, male, of 3501 Dallas Drive, arrested at 4:36 p.m. at the Cedar Falls Police Station, charged with possession of prescription drug.
Brennen Michael Winters, 19, male, of Waterloo, arrested at 9:14 p.m. at Cedar Heights Drive and University Avenue, charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
May 27:
Tony Darnell Johnson, 39, male, of Waterloo, arrested at 9:21 a.m. at Black Hawk Park, charged with credit card fraud.
May 28:
Anella Valentina Gall, 25, female, of Janesville, arrested at 4:31 p.m. at 525 Brandilynn Blvd., charged with fifth degree theft and harassment of a public official.
Bryan Jeffrey Gall, 21, male, of Waterloo, arrested at 4:31 p.m. at 525 Brandilynn Blvd., charged with fifth degree theft.
