First Cedar Valley Pridefest to Feature Zach Wahls, Performers from Cedar Falls, 'Drag' Race

This will be the first time a Pride festival, to celebrate gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual diversity in the community, will be held in the Waterloo-Cedar Falls metro area.

The Cedar Valley's first Pridefest will hit downtown Waterloo tomorrow with a full line up of musicians, performers and activities.

The festival will be from 12 p.m. to midnight in downtown Waterloo, in the 300 block of West Fourth Street. Tickets are $7.

Cedar Falls acts will join bands and performers from Waterloo and across the state for the event, which is meant to highlight the diversity of Eastern Iowa's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities.

Zach Wahls, the Iowa City man whose impassioned speech to the Iowa House of Representatives in defense of his two lesbian mothers went viral on YouTube, will speak at 3:30 p.m.

From the , the Half-Masted Comedy Improv group will perform at 6 p.m., and Cedar Falls-based burlesque, dance and performance group Sissy's Sircus will take the stage at 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Other highlights of the festival will be a "drag race" - quite literally; people dressed in drag will run down Fourth Street at 7 p.m. - and a street dance party from 11 p.m. to midnight.
