Former Cedar Falls Woman, a School Counselor, Drowned in Anamosa Friday

Nicole Cox, 30, graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and had worked as a counselor in the Aplington-Parkersburg, Wapsie Valley and Anamosa school districts.


A woman who drowned in the Wapsipinicon River last week had Cedar Falls ties.

Nicole Cox, 30, of Stanwood, died after her car plunged into the river. Authorities recovered her body outside Anamosa on Friday.

She was married to Ryan Cox and had a 2-year-old son, Kiptyn. Nicole Cox worked as a school counselor at Strawberry Hill Elementary in Anamosa.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reported she graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and worked as a counselor in the Aplington-Parkersburg School District from 2006-07 and in the Wapsie Valley School District from 2007-08.

The Courier said Ryan Cox worked for two years at UPS in Cedar Falls, where he and Nicole lived at the time.

An outdoor memorial service is scheduled at 9 a.m. Saturday at Strawberry Hill. Memorials may be sent to Ryan Cox at 104 N. Ash St. P.O. Box 121, Stanwood, IA 52337.
