Former Price Lab Teacher Arrested, Charged With Providing Alcohol to Minors

A former Malcolm Price Laboratory School teacher was arrested and charged with three counts of providing alcohol to a person under the age of 18 this morning.

Troy Douglas Elliott, 33, of 509 Olive St., was arrested at the Cedar Falls Police Department at 6:56 a.m.

According to police, Elliott was a teacher at Price Lab's Northern University High and was placed on administrative leave in the fall of 2011. He continued to tutor students after he was placed on leave.

Police said Elliott was tutoring three former students, one age 15 and two age 16. The students were allegedly invited to Elliott's house for dinner on May 7. The students' parents later reported to police that Elliott allegedly provided alcohol to their children.

Police said Elliott also lifted the girls up in the air, "like in the movie 'Dirty Dancing,'" according to the criminal complaint. The complaint said one student took a shower at Elliott's house.

Police said a student told a child protection official Elliott opened a wine bottle and gave her wine. The students allegedly talked about how the defendant made beer and liquor available to them as well.

Police said Elliott sent a text message to a parent stating one of the students had a glass of wine, but that no one was drunk.

Police said a search of Elliott's house found many of the items described by the students.

The criminal complaint said Elliott spoke with police and denied serving the students alcohol. He allegedly told police he believed one student was drinking apple juice, but that he discovered it was wine when he tasted it after the students left.
