Local Crime Rate Plummeted in 2011: Cedar Falls Police Blotter

Crime in Cedar Falls dropped 17.8 percent in 2011, announced today. It was the second year of double digit dips: in 2010, crime dropped 15 percent.

This year's numbers include a 74 percent drop in fraud cases, from 185 in 2010 to 48 in 2011. Theft from vehicles dropped from 164 to 85, a 48 percent decrease. In 2011, there were 23,000 calls for service. Officers responded to 1454 auto accidents, made 1146 arrests and made 5984 traffic stops.

Officers were also responsible for three life-saving efforts, two by use of AED's and one by pulling a man from a smoke-filled trailer, police said.

Despite the good news, arrests were still made this week. Here are arrests from Jan. 4 to Jan. 9.

Jan. 4:

Jan. 5:

Bryan Thomas Wehrle, male, 22, of Evansdale, arrested at 2:19 a.m. at 13th Street and Main Street, charged with operating while intoxicated/drugged first.

Jan. 6:

Jonathan Joel Harlan, male, 20, of Golden Valley, Ariz., arrested at 7:51 p.m. at West Third Street and Ellen Street, charged with outside warrant/want.

Jordan Patrick Ehlert, male, 21, of 2124-812 W. 27th St., arrested at 8:54 p.m. at same location, charged with harassment/first.

Jan. 7:

Christine Kay McKinstry, female, 36, of Waterloo, arrested at University Avenue and Valley Park Drive, charged with driving while license revoked.

Bret Allyn Van Nordstrand, male, 21, of Allison, arrested at 925 W. 22nd St., charged with consumption in public/intox and criminal mischief/fifth degree.

Luke Stephyen McCall, male, 20, of Algona, arrested at 10:40 p.m. at 14th Street and Main Street, charged with driving while license revoked.

Nathan James Rotter, male, 19, of Solon, arrested at 11:27 p.m. at 406 Main St., charged with consumption in public/intox.

Jan. 8:

Renaldo Deangelo Haywood, male, 22, of 1916 Walnut St., arrested at 2:07 a.m. at Third Street and Main Street, charged with interference/no injury.

Joshua Michael Collins, male, 23, of 2107-32 College St., arrested at 2:07 a.m. at Third Street and Main Street, charged with operating while intoxicated/drugged first.

Seth Jaron Pugh, male, 24, of Columbus Junction, arrested at 2:43 a.m. at 12th Street and Main Street, charged with intoxication/third.

Jessica Nicole Anthony, female, 26, of Waterloo, arrested at 3:20 a.m. at 18th Street overpass and Highway 58, charged with operating while intoxicated/drugged first.

Gabriel Brandt Olsen, male, 30, of 1216 W. First St., arrested at 2:44 p.m. at same location, charged with failure to appear.

Shawn Lee Carlson, male, 41, of 2825 Hiawatha Road, arrested at 3:46 p.m. at same location, charged with failure to appear traffic.

Jan. 9:

Amy Jo Van Hoozer, female, 25, of 1119 W. 10th St., arrested at 1:16 a.m. at Sixth Street and Clay Street, charged with operating while intoxicated/drugged first.

Chad Michael Leuer, male, 22, of 618 Melrose Drive, arrested at 2:22 a.m. at 14th Street and Waterloo Road, charged with operating while intoxicated/drugged second and possesion of a controlled substance - third.
