As a former nurse with Hospice Care for 16 years, Waverly resident Laura Skillen knows about offering compassion to those in their time of need.
On Wednesday, Fish Window Cleaning of Cedar Falls helped return the favor with a token of gratitude. Owner Curt McCallum and his team selected Laura for a free window cleaning as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Laura is currently battling the disease and was selected for her courage, dedication to others and her desire to spread awareness to the community.
“Laura is a fighter and we just see it as a gesture to perhaps lift her spirits a bit while bringing attention to breast cancer awareness,” said McCallum.
According to the American Cancer Society, more than 43 thousand people will die from the disease this year, while 297,790 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2023.
“I just want to remind women how important it is to get screened,” Laura said. “Everyone has someone they know that’s been affected by cancer, and it means a lot that Fish would come and do this.”
