UPDATED TIMES: New UNI President to be Announced Thursday

Update:

University of Northern Iowa presidential candidate Avijit Ghosh has withdrawn his candidacy for the job of leading UNI.

As a result, times have shifted for Thursday's Iowa Board of Regents schedule, during which the candidates will be interviewed before the new president is announced.

Here is the updated schedule:

The Iowa Board of Regents plans to announce the next president of the University of Northern Iowa Thursday.

The regents will meet in West Des Moines Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday's meeting will focus on normal board business, but Thursday is dedicated to the presidential search.

Three finalists, William Ruud, Avijit Ghosh and Michael Wartell, have meet with the UNI community. On Thursday, they will each meet with the regents.

The meetings will be at the Sheraton Hotel in West Des Moines and will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday. Opening statements and introduction of each candidate will be in open session, but the interviews will be in closed session.

At around 2:30 p.m. the board will go into closed session to deliberate before publicaly announcing the identity of UNI's tenth president.

The time of the announcement is not available and will be determined by how long the board spends making its decision.

The regents aren't they only ones meeting to discuss the candidates this week. The Presidential Search Committee will meet in a mostly closed session at 7:30 a.m. Feb. 6 to discuss the candidates. They will then forward their recommendation to the regents.

UNI community members were emailed a link to a feedback form to fill out after each candidate's visit. Community members and any UNI employees without university email access who wish to give feedback should email CSBR@uni.edu. The deadline to submit feedback on all three candidates is 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Current UNI president Ben Allen has announced he will retire by July.
