Police Arrest 2 Men, 1 Awaiting Trial for Vehicular Homicide, After String of Cedar Falls Vandalisms

Police said more than 25 cars, homes and businesses were hit by vandals Sunday.

Cedar Falls Police arrested two men after a string of vandalism reports Sunday.

Police said officers stopped a suspect vehicle in the 6300 block of University Avenue. After investigation, they arrested Alexander Mark Pothast, 20, of Clarksville and Blake Thomas Burkle, 20, of Waverly. Both were chargd with second-degree criminal mischief, a class D felony.

According to the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, Pothast was awaiting trial on a vehicular homicide charge:

The Bremer County Attorney’s Office accused Pothast of unintentionally causing the death of Joshua Young, 18, of Waverly, by allegedly operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated on March 21, 2010. He was out on bond and under supervision of the Iowa Department of Corrections.

Police said Monday they have taken more than 25 vandalism reports. The suspects allegedly broke vehicle, businsess and residential windows using sling shots and marbles. Police said similar reports of vandalism were reported on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, and the investigation is ongoing.
