Police: Cedar Falls Man Leads Waterloo Police on High Speed Chase, Crashes Car into Fence

A Cedar Falls man allegedly fled police and crashed his car into a fence in Waterloo.

Police said an officer stopped Garth Ellsworth Truax just after midnight on Dec. 15 after he allegedly ran a red light. When the officer approached the car, the driver allegedly sped away.

Police said the chase reached speeds of 70 mph in a 30 mph zone and that Truax's car jumped curbs and ran over railroad tracks before ending with a crash through a wooden privacy fence on State Street in Waterloo. Truax then allegedly ran on foot, but was caught and detained.

Police charged Truax, 21, of 2216-8 Lincoln St., with felony eluding, possession of methamphetamine, fifth-degree criminal mischief and interference, parole violation and driving with license suspended.
